This course analyzes the role government plays in society and helps seniors to prepare for participation in the electoral process. The course consists of a broad overview of the basic principles on which our country was founded; how those principles are reflected in the Constitution and the Bill of Rights; and the role of the legislative, executive, and judicial branches of government and our rights and responsibilities as citizens. Students will also study about political parties, public opinion, interest groups, and the electoral process at the federal level. Lastly, students will learn about U.S. foreign policy and national security, and the realities of interdependence in the New Global Age.
Prerequisites: Modern American History or Advanced Placement US History
