Advanced Placement Statistics

The Advanced Placement course in Statistics consists of a comparable semester course in Statistics available in most colleges or universities. It is expected that students who take this advanced placement course in Statistics will seek college credit for this class. The course will consist of the major concepts and tools for collecting data, while analyzing and drawing conclusions from that data. Students are exposed to four broad conceptual themes.
- Exploring Data: Describing patterns and departures from patterns
- Sampling and Experimentation: Planning and conducting a study
- Anticipating patterns: Exploring random phenomena using probability and simulation
- Statistical inference: Estimating population parameters and testing hypothesis.
A secondary goal of this course is to give students the knowledge to become better consumers and learners. Students will be able to see or question the validity of statements or information presented to them in everyday life. Statistics is an integral part of many other subject areas; a well-rounded basic knowledge will benefit students through understanding concepts and relationships in other subjects such as the physical and social sciences.
